A New Lease On Life: Magic Lantern for the 7D Has Arrived!

If you're a reluctant DSLR shooter like myself, you've learned to loathe shooting video on cameras designed to shoot stills. I do use my 7D extensively as a stills camera, but every once in a while I find myself being forced to use it to shoot video. My biggest issue has been the lack of a peaking or any other type of focus assist, as I'm sure it's been for most of us. Today, that problem is solved thanks to the wonderful hackers at Magic Lantern. Those famous for hacking a set of much needed controls for the 5D Mark II, have now hacked the (previously impossible to hack) 7D and here's what we now have access to:

- Audio meters while recording
- Zebras
- Focus peaking
- Magic Zooom (via half-shutter, or focus ring)
- Cropmarks, Ghost image
- Spotmeter
- False color
- Histogram, Waveform
- Vectorscope
- Movie logging
- Movie auto stop
- Trap focus
- LiveView settings (brightness, contrast...)
- Level indicator
- Image review tweaks (quick zoom)
- and a lot more
